Accessibility at Boston Children's

If you need a special accommodation, such as a wheelchair-accessible bathroom, interpreter, or escort assistance, please speak with a member of your health care team or a Boston Children's service provider (such as someone working at the front desk or a valet staff member). We are here to help you and your family.

Parking

  • Handicap parking: The main Boston Children’s Hospital garage located on Blackfan Street has designated handicap spaces. Visitors may also use our valet services, which are available 24 hours a day at the main entrance of the hospital.
    • The valet surcharge fee is waived for all visitors with a handicap plate (HP) placard or HP license plate who require valet services for their vehicle.
    • Normal garage rates apply. Please validate your parking ticket at the information desk in the main lobby to receive the discounted daily rate.
  • Oversized vehicles: The main garage has a maximum height clearance of 6 feet 8 inches. If your vehicle is too tall for the self-park garage, go to valet services at the main entrance of our hospital on 300 Longwood Avenue, Boston. Our valet services team can accommodate oversized vehicles and vans.
  • Accessing your car during your stay: If you need access to your car during your stay, valet services will gladly get your vehicle for no additional charge at any time during your visit.
  • Specially-modified vehicles: If you drive a specially-modified vehicle, please speak with the valet manager at the main entrance of the hospital for assistance.

If you have any questions about parking accessibility, please call Boston Children’s Parking Services at 617-355-6251 or email parking@childrens.harvard.edu.

Handicap accessible bathrooms

All of our facilities offer bathrooms that are handicap accessible and meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. These bathrooms can accommodate wheelchairs and have other special features, such as grab bars and specially-designed toilets and sinks.

Please speak with a member of our staff to find the closest handicap accessible bathroom.

Service animals

We welcome the use of service animals by any person with a disability. Service animals are not allowed in areas of the hospital where they would cause a major change to hospital operations or impact the safety of others. According to the ADA, comfort or emotional support animals are not considered service animals. Service animals receive special training to do specific tasks that a person may not be able to do because of their disability. Please ask for a copy of the family education sheet if you have further questions.

  • To learn more about our service animal policy, please download our Family Education Sheet: English | Arabic | Spanish
