Boston Children’s Hospital earned approval from the Massachusetts Public Health Council on October 20, 2016, to begin work on our proposal for the transformation and evolution of our Longwood campus, including the Boston Children’s Clinical Building and the development of new outpatient facilities in Brookline.
Determination of Need is the state’s mandatory public regulatory program and approval process that healthcare facilities must adhere to when they propose substantial capital expenditures, as well as other significant actions that could impact the healthcare market.

The process
As part of the Determination of Need process, Boston Children’s Hospital submitted the following communications to the Department of Public Health to support the proposal and in response to requests for additional information.

Letters of support
On February 25, 2016, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health held a public hearing to review support for Boston Children’s Determination of Need. Hundreds of patients, families, staff and supporters attended the hearing, and many wrote thoughtful and passionate letters of support. Hospital leadership submitted the following letters of support.
