Babies who have experienced a brain injury or have a congenital neurological condition need intense, specialized care. At the Fetal-Neonatal Neurology Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, we provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for these young children. Because newborns’ brains are in a crucial window of rapid development, we identify problems as early as possible and intervene quickly.

We follow newborns who have been seen in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) of Boston Children’s, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as well as other infants who are referred to us by their pediatricians. After your baby has been discharged from the NICU, we will continue to monitor her neurological progress and to provide treatments that will help her long-term development.

Also, we can meet with you during pregnancy if your obstetrician suspects that your baby has a brain abnormality. The neurologists on our team are part of the Boston Children’s Fetal Care and Surgery Center. Prenatal consultations are conducted there, and once your baby is born, we look after her in our neonatal neurology clinic.

Our clinical research

The neurologists on the Fetal-Neonatal Neurology team conduct a wide range of clinical research studies to improve our understanding of problems in early brain development and to find effective new treatments. See the research and innovation page to find out more.
