We have been at the forefront of innovation in pediatric arrhythmias since the earliest days of the field. We were among the first to apply principles of cardiac pacing and catheter ablation in children, and our breakthrough work in these interventional techniques are now applied worldwide to children with arrhythmias and heart rhythm management devices.

We are well-known innovators in the fields of ablation and arrhythmia management in patients with congenital heart disease, the development of hybrid pacing and defibrillation systems, lead extraction techniques, and techniques for reducing fluoroscopy during catheter ablation in patients of all ages.

Some other ways we are constantly innovating include:

  • catheter-based technology that creates a 3-D map of the heart to provide detailed views of where complex arrhythmias originate, allowing our electrophysiologists to treat complex and common arrhythmias with extreme precision, minimizing the use of x-rays, and reducing the likelihood of complications from ablation
  • pacemaker and ICD lead extraction for children and adults with CHD
  • cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) for heart failure in pediatric and adult congenital patients
  • state-of-the-art care, at our Center for Cardiovascular Genetics, that is tailored to the specific clinical and genetic needs of patients and their families with an inherited arrhythmia syndrome, cardiomyopathies, and a family history of sudden unexpected death or sudden cardiac arrest
  • focused diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias in children who undergo surgical repair of Ebstein’s anomaly, heart tumors, and other complex cardiac conditions
  • intra-operative mapping during cardiac surgery aimed at reducing the need for post-operative pacing in collaboration with colleagues in the Surgical Electrophysiology Program
