Office hours

  • Monday through Thursday:  Visits are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Friday:  Visits available 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Phones are answered by our receptionists 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Outside of these hours, calls are answered by our answering service.
  • Saturday, Sunday, and Holidays:   Urgent care 9 a.m. to noon
  • Urgent visits on weekends and holidays can be arranged by calling 617-361-1470 between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. and asking the answering service to page the on-call provider.
  • Routine visits are available on some Saturday mornings.

 

MyChart online portal

MyChart enables you to view your child’s medical record (including notes from medical visits and lab tests), schedule well and sick visits, message your provider, request prescription refills, and even download camp and sports forms. PLEASE note that MyChart messaging is not appropriate for urgent concerns. It should be used only for questions and concerns that can wait up to 72 hours for a response.You can access MyChart through the web and mobile apps for iOS and Android devices. We strongly recommend that all families sign up for the MyChart portal.

Prescription refills

Refills can be requested through the patient portal at any time. Please allow 72 hours for prescription refills to be completed.

Scheduling appointments

Well visits may be scheduled on the MyChart portal or by phone up to 6 months in advance. If you do not see a visit available on the portal, call us. Well visits can be scheduled with your primary care pediatrician or a nurse practitioner. After school and Saturday well visits are in high demand and can require several months' advance planning.

Urgent visits are available daily until the office closes. Visits can be booked on the MyChart portal up to 24 hours in advance. If you do not see a visit available call us. Requests for nonurgent visits will be accommodated the same day if appointments are available. If we do not have same day availability the request will be triaged by our nursing staff, and an appointment will be arranged at a time that is convenient for you and clinically appropriate

After hours

For concerns that arise after hours or on weekends, our website (hydeparkpedi.com) is a useful resource for medical advice and medication dosages. If you have an urgent concern that is not adequately addressed on our website, please call our regular office number, 617-361-1470, to reach the doctor or nurse on call. A physician from our practice is on call at all times to return your call or support the nurse who returns your call. Our answering service will take a message and page the on-call physician or nurse to return your call. During periods of very high volume, calls are prioritized by severity of symptoms. Calls are usually returned within 15 minutes, but on rare occasions, it could take up to an hour to receive a call back for a non-urgent issue. If your call has not been answered in a reasonable amount of time, please call back. Modern technology can falter from time to time, and occasionally, a call or page might get “lost.”

Please try to reserve after-hours calls for truly ill children or for concerns that cannot wait until regular office hours. We bill insurance for after-hours phone calls. Your insurance company may charge a copay,or it may go to your deductible. If you believe your child may be critically ill or that it would be unsafe to wait at all prior to receiving medical advice or care, you should proceed directly to the nearest emergency room.It is not appropriate to use MyChart messaging for urgent after-hours concerns

Telephones

Our phones are answered live by our receptionistsnot an automated attendantduring our weekday business hours. Our nurses are available all day to answer any advice questions you have or to help you determine if and when your child should be seen in the office. Our nurses return calls promptly, usually within 30 minutes. If an issue is urgent a nurse will pick up your call immediately. If you would like to speak with your provider on a day that your provider is in the office, our receptionist will take a message and your provider will call you back by the end of the day. If your provider is not in the office, the receptionist will let you know when she will return and when you can expect a call back

A word about Emergency Room use

We believe that, along with you, we know your child’s history and healthcare needs best.Given your access to us by telephone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, we hope that you will restrict trips to emergency rooms to problems requiring immediate medical attention or true, life-threatening situations. (Examples include a child who is breathing with difficulty or who has stopped breathing, a bleeding wound that you cannot control, or an injury that has caused loss of consciousness, to name a few.)If your child requires immediate medical attention or is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or proceed directly to the nearest emergency room. If you are concerned that your child might need emergency attention but believe that it is safe to wait for advice, please call us before proceeding to an emergency room. We will contact that facility to inform them of your child’s current problem and provide details of any pertinent medical history. Please let us know as soon as possible about any emergency-room care your child may have received so that we can obtain the emergency-room record and provide any necessary follow-up care
