Dr. Sayeed’s primary scholarly interests involve understanding the social determinants and meaning of newborn human survival and death. He has published several peer-reviewed articles and authored book chapters on the same. He is also interested in bioethics education for health care providers in resource-limited contexts. He is the co-founder and director of the International Pediatric Outreach Project, a service-oriented non-profit organized to improve the delivery of children’s health care in Africa and India, and serves as a consultant to Partners-in-Health in Haiti.

Sadath Sayeed, J.D., M.D. is Instructor in Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Assistant in Medicine in the Division of Newborn Medicine at Children’s Hospital Boston. Prior to joining Harvard’s faculty, Dr. Sayeed was on faculty at the University of California, San Francisco where he completed residency and fellowship training in pediatrics and neonatal medicine. While there, he was an adjunct faculty member at the University of California Berkeley School of Law.
Dr. Sayeed is course director for Harvard Medical School’s Responsible Conduct of Research educational program, and directs a similar course at Children’s Hospital Boston. At HMS, he teaches semester long 1st year courses in Medical Ethics and Professionalism and in Introduction to Social Medicine. In 2007 and 2010, Dr. Sayeed was recognized by the Academy at Harvard for excellence in tutorial facilitation and has twice been nominated for the Years 1 and 2 O’Hara Prize for Excellence in Teaching.
At Harvard Medical School, Dr. Sayeed directs the Program in Global Newborn Health and Social Change. The Program has new projects aimed at improving neonatal health care delivery in under-resourced areas of the world; it is currently working with Partners-in Health in Rwanda, Haiti, Malawi, and Lesotho. In addition to his research interests, he is a neonatologist at Children's Hospital, Boston.
