Dr. Calderon's research focuses on the consequences of prenatal and infant insults to the developing nervous system, particularly in the context of congenital heart disease and/or preterm birth.
Dr. Calderon's studies include:
- the mechanisms of neurodevelopmental impairments in children and adolescents with critical congenital heart disease after open-heart surgery
- the identification of prenatal, neonatal and infant medical risk factors contributing to long-term deficits and
- the study of neurodevelopmental interventions to improve cognitive and behavioral outcomes in this population
