Gratitudes

Patient Kimberly Cooney (pictured below) suffered from a rare eye condition where her eyes would not hold steady unless she cocked her head more than 45 degrees to the left. The following letter was sent to David Hunter, MD, PhD, Boston Children's ophthalmologist-in-chief.

patient storyDear Dr. Hunter,

I cannot begin to express my gratitude to you for my recent eye surgery. The results are far beyond my wildest dreams! Finally, I am able to face people (and myself) head-on; it still doesn't feel real to me. And my level of confidence has increased as a result of the surgeryI'm less insecure about my appearance.

I am also eternally grateful that you took the time to meet with my husband, Michael, and me to discuss the possibility of surgery. I have tried for nearly five years to find a surgeon to do this, but none would give me the time of day.

In addition to you, your staff and facility are the best. I have had the pleasure of experiencing all these things that helped me cope with such a life-changing procedure. I have been living with this "situation" for 30 years and finally feel free and at ease with my physical appearance.

Michael and I cannot express our gratitude to you enough. Please know I think of you fondly each time I see myself looking straight in the mirror. You really have changed my life for the better. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Kimberly Cooney
