Dr. Guskiewicz is the Kenan Distinguished Professor and Co-Director of the Matthew Gfeller Sport-Related Traumatic Brain Injury Research Center and Research Director of the Center for the Study of Retired Athletes in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds joint appointments in the Department of Orthopaedics, UNC Injury Prevention Research Center, and Doctoral Program in Human Movement Science. In January 2016, he was appointed Dean of UNC’s College of Arts & Sciences. In February 2019, he was appointed interim chancellor at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Guskiewicz is the recipient of 24 funded research grants, and has published over 150 peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters related to concussion in sport, and served as an expert panelist at the 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 International Consensus Conferences on Sports Concussion. He has served on the NCAA’s Concussion Committee since 2010, and served on the NFLPA’s Mackey-White Committee, and the NFL’s Head, Neck, and Spine Committee. In 2011, he was awarded a prestigious MacArthur Fellowship for his creativity in researching sport-related concussion.
