Sonia Ruparell | Professional History

Sonia Ruparell, MD is an attending sports medicine physician and also a clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School learning additional skills in musculoskeletal ultrasound. She is also currently serves on the Practice & Policy committee at the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine with a special interest in national policy related to sports medicine and physical activity and advocacy. Dr. Ruparell's clinical interests include treating injured rock climbers, preventative care, holistic athlete care including athlete mental health, concussion management. In addition to rock climbers, hockey/baseball/soccer athletes and gymnasts, Dr. Ruparell sees all injuries and athletes.

Dr. Ruparell has experience working at the collegiate level and worked covering various Division 1 sports at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. In addition, Dr. Ruparell has experience covering high school sports in both Chicago and Massachusetts.

Dr. Ruparell's research interests include burnout, sports specialization, rock climbing injuries and injury prevention. She is also interested in transgender athlete health, sports advocacy and policy and has written articles discussing athlete resilience and mental health published in newspapers including the Omaha Herald.

Listening, clear communication and holistic care are at the foundation of my practice. I aim to be as reachable and flexible as possible. I see all types of injuries and have experience working with olympic gymnasts, professional, collegiate and high school athletes. I have a special interest in treating rock climbing injuries and am either outdoors or in the gym climbing multiple times a week.
