Andrew Powell | Professional History
Dr. Andrew Powell is currently a Senior Associate in Cardiology at Boston Children’s Hospital, and Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1992 followed by a residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric cardiology, both at Boston Children’s Hospital. Afterward, he joined the staff there in the Department of Cardiology, where he specializes in diagnostic imaging, the management of children with complex congenital heart disease, and fetal cardiology. In 2006, he became the Director of Cardiac MRI, and in 2019 he was elected President of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. Dr. Powell’s research has focused on the development of novel MRI methods to improve diagnosis, guide therapy, and predict outcomes of congenital and pediatric heart disease. He has published over 150 research papers, chapters, and review articles. Dr. Powell is also a devoted educator who speaks nationally and internationally on diagnostic imaging in congenital heart disease and has won numerous teaching awards.
