We hope everyone is staying calm and taking all of the precautions recommended by the experts in the CDC and our Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The risk of serious COVID-19 disease to healthy children is exceedingly low at this time; no children under 10 have died from COVID-19 worldwide as far as we know (3/17/2020), and the symptomatic infection rate in young children appears to be low. The highest risk is for the elderly and the members of our community who have chronic illnesses; it is ALL of our responsibility to do everything that we can to protect them.
We want to remind everyone, however, of the importance of practicing social isolation as much as you can. All the credible experts tell us that the way to combat this pandemic is by flattening the time curve of new infections so that our medical system will be able to keep up with patients who require hospital-level care.
In situations like this, the recommendations will change rapidly, and we suggest three places where people can go to stay up to date or if you have questions:
Boston Children’s Hospital COVID-19 Hotline for general questions:
855-281-5730 or 617-355-4200
It is not helpful to seek information from unreliable sources, so please be very careful!
In our office, we are working hard to provide care to our patients when needed, but we do not want to bring people out of their homes unless it is necessary. As the day to day situation changes, our office will respond accordingly, following the recommendations of our colleagues at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Department of Public Health.
