Spring Asthma

With spring here, we would like to offer our asthmatic patients a few reminders to help make your family's spring a healthy one. You can access an electronic version of your child's Asthma Plan through the MyChart patient portal.

  1. Take a moment to review your child's Asthma Plan. Pay specific attention to the Green Zone and to the date you are supposed to begin your child's daily (preventive) medication. Even though the winter months may have been fine, spring is the second most common season for asthmatic patients to get into trouble.

  2. Check your medications to make sure they have not expired. Please use the MyChart portal to request refills if any medicines are set to expire soon.

  3. Check your Asthma Plan to see when your next asthma recheck visit should be. Asthma requires visits when you're well to prevent you from becoming seriously sick. If your child is on daily medicine, they need to be seen every 4-6 months. Have you scheduled this appointment?

  4. In the event of an asthma attack that requires calling the doctor, ALWAYS START FIRST BY GIVING AN ALBUTEROL TREATMENT. Don't wait for a return call to start treatment! If you have oral steroids at home and your child is in distress, you can start those as well.

REMEMBER THE EARLY WARNING SIGNS OF ASTHMA:

  • Nighttime coughing
  • Shortness of breath or coughing with exertion (walking or running)

Are your children's rooms dust and dust-mite free? Find out!

Through active prevention, you can help make this spring a healthy one (with no missed days of school)!

It's still not too late to get your flu or COVID shots! Call our office to schedule your vaccine!

Thank you,
