Getting help
The news of the horrific events in Duxbury this week that ultimately led to a mother taking the lives of her three children and attempting to take her own life in the midst of a postpartum psychosis is unthinkable. We know that this news has been extremely difficult for many of you to process and as individuals committed to improving the lives of children, and as parents ourselves, it has been difficult for us to process this as well.
With our commitment to children also comes a commitment to their family. Postpartum anxiety and depression are common. The newborn phase can also significantly impact the mental health of fathers. Depression and anxiety at any stage of life is common. You are not alone. You should never be alone.
If at any point, you or someone in your family needs help, please reach out to us, your medical provider, or the resources below. Please take the time now and in the future to check in on those you love, remembering that many people may not “look depressed” but can be carrying an immense weight on the inside regardless. Please ask how they are doing.
Please also keep an eye out for a postpartum mental health workshop to be offered by our office in the future.
